Marianne has a vast experience of working with babies and young children. Since gaining her HNC in Childcare and Education she has worked in nurseries in Scotland and Australia and as an au-pair in Cyprus. She is passionate about empowering all youngsters to reach their potential and has supported children with additional needs to build their confidence and encourage their development. She has also mentored students in Early Years courses. Marianne loves language and imaginative play, and she’ll often be found reading stories or singing songs with the help of a few puppet pals!
What is your favourite children's book that you’ve read?
Oh it has to be “The Gruffalo”! I love doing this as my book of the week, really involving the children – going on Gruffalo hunts, having a taste of ‘owl ice cream’…
What is your favourite children's game?
I loved being outdoors as a child. At school I’d say my favourite thing was hopscotch and skipping ropes. I liked ‘Guess Who’ and ‘Stop the Bus’ when I was older.
What piece of art/craft that you’ve produced are you most proud of?
I’d have to say my first hand-prints Xmas tree. I loved it! I was so proud of myself (and obviously the children) who all loved getting involved.
What is your favourite song/nursery rhyme?
Oh this is a tough one… “5 cheeky monkeys swinging in the trees” – I love acting this one out!
What do you enjoy most: playing, talking or reading?
I try to deny it but I’m a chatterbox…so I’ll have to say talking!
If you were to describe yourself as a children's character or superhero, who would it be?
Anna from Frozen. She’s hilarious and I like to think I’m funny, plus she would do anything for her sister and family – as would I.
When you were a child what did you want to do when you grew up?
I always wanted to work with children. My nursery teacher knew that I would even at the young age of 3.
