Children don’t walk fast – they take their time and want to look at everything. Making a nature bucket is a great way to encourage curiosity and turn a short walk into a memorable game.

What you need

A bucket

Walking improves coordination and balance, and builds up strength

Develops imagination and sharpens observational skills

How long will it take?

An afternoon

What to do

  1. Collect things that you see on your walk and talk about them as you put them into the bucket.
  2. Let your imagination run wild. Maybe a leaf is an umbrella for an ant, or a stone is the same shape as a dinosaur. You could even make a picture out of your treasure when you get home.
