A great way to introduce your child to reading is to label objects around the house – that way they’ll soon begin to learn exciting new words.

What you need

A black marker pen

Post it notes – or plain white paper

Increases vocabulary

Awareness of surroundings

Learning to recognise shapes of words

Develops confidence

And don’t forget, the everyday things you do together make a big difference and can help your child to grow up healthier and happier.

How long will it take?

30 mins

What to do

  1. Put labels on things you use every day.
  2. Then point them out and say ‘I am opening the cupboard’ or ‘I am looking in the fridge.’ They’ll know what everything around them is called in no time.
